The Database Administrator manages the production and non-production Mainframe DB2 and Microsoft SQL databases and technical environments, including the installation, support and maintenance of the databases and servers.
Resolve complex database performance issues, database capacity issues, SQL related issues and other distributed data issues.
Ability to analyze DB2 statistics (system, database, buffer pool, thread, utility.)
Confer with and advise Development groups on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.
Consult with application development teams and advise them of the correct usage of appropriate data manipulation techniques.
Responsible for Storage management, backup and Recovery, monitoring and maintaining ongoing performance of databases to develop updates or modifications according to business needs. Monitor and review and collaborate with other database administrators to ensure correct practices and procedures.
Assist IT team members with issues needing technical expertise or complex systems and/or database knowledge.
Mentor team members to improve their understanding and skill and ensure they are familiar with resource materials including manuals and systems.
Design technical solutions and prepare implementation methods to be performed by other DBA team members.
Support our Disaster Recovery program
Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain DB2 databases.
Thorough knowledge of underlying DB2 database management system products and tools such as CA/Platinum.
Knowledge of Disk storage mechanisms preferred.
Good working knowledge of DB2 Utilities, Backup, Recovery, Load, Check, REORG, Runstats.
Working knowledge of OMEGAMON XE for DB2 performance (accounting reports) ,
Platinum products, including Detector , SA analyzer, Log analyzer etc.
Knowledge of programming languages helpful (Cobol, Java, SQL).
Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions.
Help with the Mainframe migration project
The individual will need to participate in 7 by 24 on-call responsibilities
