Description: DBAs should focus on architecture, administration and dbPaaS. DBAs need to understand the following: SLAs and their implications Solid knowledge of cloud architecture. The cloud providers scheduled maintenance and its implications on the business The consistency models that cloud providers offer with different dbPaaS services NoSQL databases, their architecture and the ways in which they differ from relational database management systems (RDBMSs) The different NoSQL database types, such as key-value stores, graph stores, document databases and wide-column stores Scale-out database implementations Big data applications Cost Optimization DBAs should understand the costs of running databases in the cloud and the methods to optimize cost, including: Instance class Primary and backup storage I/O requests per month Data transfer Growth expectation Data Management Includes functions such as: Data life cycle management Retention Data warehousing Reporting Disaster Recovery (DR) and Replication Leverage, and replicate data to, different zones and regions as needed. DBA would participate in planning with DevOps, as needed. Performance monitoring: It is very important to monitor and continuously optimize a cloud database deployment. Bad performance may lead to increased resource provisioning, which, in turn, may lead to higher costs. Hence, staying on top of best-of-breed technologies and provider innovations helps DBAs continuously optimize the environment. Security management: Although cloud providers secure their platform services, DBAs still must: Ensure data protection at rest, in transit, in memory and during backup Monitor database access for unauthorized access KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (This list contains KSAs that are typically associated with the job. It is not all-inclusive and may vary from position to position. Hiring agencies may, depending on the specific nature of the position, modify these KSAs and/or identify additional KSAs, based on a current position analysis. Understanding of database architecture Extensive experience with: PostgreSQL - This is the primary need MySQL SQL Replication methods Security model Optimization methods Familiarity with: RDS/Aurora JPA/Hibernate Oracle MSSQL ETL/DW processes and design patterns Understanding and experience with: Data deduplication Query optimization Coordinating work efforts with DevSecOps and other DBAs Assisting with data analysts with queries OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.   Call 502-379-4456 Ext 100 for more details.
