Brief Description of Work The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) is seeking a resource to perform a variety of technical writing and training tasks for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). These tasks include designing, writing/creating, and updating user documentation and/or help systems for custom-designed computer applications, developing and posting web content about a variety of subjects, and developing/delivering training materials and courses. C. Objectives Support computer software applications used by MDOT offices across the state of Michigan by creating user documentation, online help systems, and web content and by developing and delivering training. E. Description of the requested work, including deliverables and knowledge transfer Tasks common to all deliverables and areas of responsibility: ? Interface with developers, project team members and agency customers to define documentation and training requirements, and review/refine/update draft materials. ? Provide estimates based on approved requirements. Tasks related to developing user documentation and online help to support computer software applications used by MDOT: ? Design and create user materials that document the proper and effective operation of any new custom-designed state agency computer system. ? Update/edit existing user reference material documenting the proper and effective operation of any existing custom-designed state agency computer system. ? Design and create on-line help systems accessible to the user from within any new or existing custom-designed state agency computer system. ? Design and create on-line document reference systems, through custom macro application programming and/or hypertext linking. ? Develop and post web content about a variety of subjects. Tasks related to training development and/or delivery: ? Design and create curriculum, materials, and presentation outlines/agendas for custom end-user training classes for any new or existing custom-designed state agency computer system. ? Design and create curriculum, materials, and presentation outlines/agendas for custom train-the-trainer or system administrator training classes for any new or existing custom-designed state agency computer system. ? Train designated state staff on the proper and effective use of any new or existing custom-designed state agency computer systems, including migration classes reflecting change of versions in systems. Skills: Required A writing sample which must be: ? Written by the resource ? A sample of user documentation ? At least five pages long. Five years experience creating complex documents in Microsoft Word, including experience creating/using master/sub documents, templates, tables of contents, indices, cross-references; hypertext, graphics, and macro development. Five years experience using advanced features to create graphic images in complex documents with the following programs: Microsoft PowerPoint, Visio, SnagIt, Paintbrush, etc. Five years experience in IT technical writing creating reference, training, technical documentation, and end-user support materials. Five years experience creating custom documentation in a client/server or web-based environment including interactions with multiple stakeholders, such as business owners, system users, administrators, analysts, programmers, and managers. Two years experience creating training curricula and materials, including outlines, flowcharts, diagrams and general reference material for advanced technical training in the use of custom-developed client/server or web-based applications.
