Database Architects are familiar with a variety of the database technologies, concepts, methodologies, practices, and procedures and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Database Architects are able to perform a variety of complicated tasks with minimal or no direct supervision. They assist in defining system and application architecture and provide vision, problem anticipation, and problem solving ability to organization. They consult with the client to define needs or issues, conduct research, perform studies and surveys to obtain data, and analyze problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of specific discipline or field of specialization. The Database Architect Senior is responsible for in-depth analysis, design, configuration, and testing of the database and data reporting processes and functionality, as well as process definition and execution of data migration activities. Database architects are integral to development and execution of data and database maintenance processes (including production support), enhancement, and development operations. Database architects possess an exceptional range of skills and a deep-rooted working knowledge of current data management, data validation, and reporting practices and technologies. They are able to use knowledge of theory, principles, and products from a wide range of disciplines and technologies to produce effective and efficient databases, reports, and reporting functionality. The Department currently employs an application that manages processes and data related to child protection, foster care, and adoption. The application is written in Natural for Windows. The associated database was migrated from mainframe to SQL Server, but still utilizes some mainframe conventions. The Department is rewriting the application in .Net and optimizing the database to power the rewritten application, simplify reporting, and facilitate future development and reporting requirements. The initial rewrite of the current application constitutes a re-platforming effort, rather than an enhancement venture. Personnel contracted to provide services for this engagement will be required to provide a background check prior to commencing project work. The position outlined is anticipated to be part-time only. Hours expected per week will vary based on deliverables and schedule. Agency Expected Deliverables Experience: Ten plus years of experience. Education: Four year college degree or equivalent study and experience in the area of computer science. Advanced studies preferred.
