Job Description Administrator: Netezza, Teradata, Troubleshooting, SQL

Teradata / Netezza Application DBA to fulfill a contract role with our Columbus, Ohio client. Responsibilities are to administer, maintain and utilize policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the databases.

Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of proven experience with the following:

Knowledge and experience administering Teradata 15 environments is required.
Netezza knowledge required
Redshift Knowledge a STRONG PLUS
Expertise in performance troubleshooting, capacity management and planning, security best practices, configuration, and execution of maintenance utilities.
Proven knowledge of common database administration tools (e.g. Teradata Administrator, SQL Assistant, Netbackup/TARA, Viewpoint)
Experience in automating manual processes using standard scripting tools such as Python, Bash, or Powershell.
Practical experience in Lean or Agile best practices is a plus.
Candidate must be task oriented, able to adapt to varying work demands and have good time management skills
Teradata/Netezza App DBA Responsibilities:

Review data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes.
Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
Support production DBA in daily or emergency procedures to resolve issues.
Support the data loads into the databases.
Ensure that the application and any enhancements, interact efficiently with the database developers.
Develop and implement database performance monitoring process and analyze monitoring data for performance optimization opportunities.
Create/Implement database maintenance plan to ensure data integrity.
Manage the backup and recovery process.
Day-to Day Activities:

Performance tuning – strong knowledge of SQL, joins, stats concepts.
Move data from one server to another – nparc, tara/NetBackup.
Compression – Nexus.
Review ddl – solid understanding of best practices (can suggest changes to make).
Run DML for developers for QA and prod boxes (SQL assistant).
Linux and Shell scripting as needed.
ServiceNow – assigning, completing, closing out task/incident tickets.
Grant access using existing procedures – Galaxy request for existing prod dbs/data stores, ServiceNow requests for developer access on DEV. Complete developer access requests with ServiceNow.
Troubleshoot and resolve user and database issues to ensure the data warehouse meets service level requirements.
Provide guidance to less experienced team members.
Review IIQ requests for access removal/changes.
Release Activities:

Plan/coordinate several tasks to ensure all are completed when needed.
Report completion of activities to the team.
Schedule time with developers if there are questions/issues regarding release work.
Review scripts to lessen issues on execution day.
On Call duties:

Use Viewpoint to monitor systems. Check into poorly running queries that are affecting system performance.
Respond to emails to the Teradata DBA team.
Actively monitor and respond to service now tickets.
Monitor load id release requests and check system to make sure load ids can be released.
Review incoming tickets – if fix ids could be use, promote them.
Ensure backups are running over the weekend, escalate any issues to the system DBAs.
Complete Emergency or Urgent RFC ddl/dml/restore activity.
Use Teradata Administrator to move space to avoid capacity issues.
