Description :

Disease Surveillance and Investigation

As an epidemiologist assigned to the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Program within the HIV, STI, and Viral Hepatitis (HSVH) Section, support and help lead the program transition from PRISM (Patient Reporting Investigating Surveillance Manager) to NBS (National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) Base System) surveillance system. This person will work closely with both the Surveillance Systems and Informatics (SSI) Program and the STI Program.
Serve as TDH STI point of contact for STD Message Mapping Guide (MMG) implementation
Support implementation and improvement of the STD modules within NBS, using critical thinking skills to develop creative solutions to balance the needs of the STI Program with limitations of NBS.
This position will work closely with the SSI-NBS Coordinator, STI Program Director, STI Surveillance Director, SSI-HSVH Epidemiologist, and SSI Program Director to assist with preparation of PRISM data for migration to NBS.
Support STI user technical assistance, testing STI workflows and new functionality, and provide training to the HSVH disease programs and regions/metros.
Perform electronic laboratory report (ELR) parallel validation and monitor quality of incoming STI ELR data. When implemented, monitor quality of incoming STI electronic case report data
Assist with development of program data quality reports to monitor implementation of NBS STI Module and ongoing program data quality.
Support data analysis and visualization needs of the STI program.
Contribute to disease surveillance and surge capacity across the state during infectious disease outbreak investigations.

Planning, Coordination, and Information Sharing

Liaise with STI and HIV programs and the SSI program to ensure PRISM-NBS project is on target and ensure outstanding issues are addressed.
Liaise with STI central office team members and field staff to further data quality and surveillance goals and support projects as needed.
Regularly present on project updates and lessons learned at team meetings.
Participate in writing STD PCHD grant progress reports and narratives as assigned, including surveillance-related and NBS-related components of grant progress reports.
Attend CSTE STD Surveillance Calls and other calls related to NBS and MMG implementation.

Collaboration

Collaborates with regional and metro health department STI staff regarding NBS use, improvement needs, and implementation.
Collaborate with STI Training and Evaluation Coordinator to develop NBS trainings and user guide for field staff.

* Required: Masters in Public Health or Epidemiology, strong data analysis skills, proficiency with SAS

Preferred: SQL, familiarity with STI surveillance and reporting
