Job Description Engineer: Unix, Veritas Clusture, MS SQL, Oracle RMAN Backup AIX 5.2 5.3 6.1

Description:

Client is looking for a NetBackup Engineer – Level II who will maintain, configure, and install servers. Monitor and manage server operations and performance. Configure and maintain storage. Implement and monitor backups and recoveries. Document configurations, instructional procedures, change management records, performance and growth analysis reports. Manage hardware and software vendors, including support calls and maintenance performed by vendor engineers. Perform project, capacity, and budget planning, including identifying projects, developing project tasks and timelines, estimating future capacity requirements, and obtaining budgetary quotes.

Required skills:

? Follow change management processes and protocols
? Be responsible for capacity management, expansion, and growth planning
? Manage UNIX and VERITAS cluster system installations and configurations and provide documents where necessary
? Provide expert-level support of the Symantec NetBackup environment
? Capable of working independently or as part of a team
? Mentoring and providing guidance to junior administrative and technical staff in procedural and technical topics to further develop less experienced associates
? Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
? Understanding administrative user concepts such as Windows domains, UNIX groups/users and how user/group/domain access works on various operating systems. Understanding advanced O/S user and file system concepts and how they can relate to backup and recovery
? Act as an intermediary between other staff members and senior management to help propagate effective communications and awareness in both directions
? Identify gaps discovered in any area of involvement and provide effective communications regarding the gap to senior management so impact analysis can be performed and a resolution strategy devised
? Hands-on experience with configuring and performing database backups and restores, including MS SQL on Windows clusters, and Oracle RMAN backups on AIX systems.

Desired Skills:

? 5-10 years of CommVault experience
? Presentation ability; bridging the business to technical or technical to business level view
? Ability to respond to emergency or urgent situations on an as-needed basis. Whereas on-call rotation or “pager duty” is handled by others, there is a need to be available on an as-needed basis in the event of an urgent situation by other staff members
? Act as an intermediary between other staff members and senior management to help propagate effective communications and awareness in both directions.
? Identify gaps discovered in any area of involvement and provide effective communications regarding the gap to senior management so impact analysis can be performed and a resolution strategy devised.

Education:

Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
