Job Description Engineer: Automated Test Scenarios, Visual Basic 6, .Net, .NET FRAMEWORK SQL SQL Server VMWare TFS

Test Automation Engineer - San Diego, California

Position Summary:

Successful candidate will help design and improve test automation framework, including processes and procedures for mission-critical Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems. This role will be responsible to coordinate efforts with offshore test automation engineers, and to create, execute, and maintain automated test scripts. This position also works in collaboration with manual testers to meet the quality objectives of the organization and making continuous improvements to maximize testing coverage and reduce testing cycle time.

Responsibilites:

- Setup data, tools, databases and systems to support integrated test environments.
- Review test cases written for manual testing; make necessary adjustments for suitability towards automation.
- Create, execute, maintain and improve test scripts using TestComplete.
- Create scripts to compare and validate results from testing; log results in Quality Center; log bugs in Team Foundation Server (TFS).
- Classify and reuse automation scripts for smoke, performance, functional, and regression tests.
- Work with the development teams to understand how changes in the software design / architecture may affect maintenance of test scripts and automated testing enviornments, and adjust automation program accordingly.
- Coordinate with offshore test automation engineers to meet planned objectives; provide technical assistance in automation related challenges; review and critique test scripts to ensure high quality and compliance against the intended scope.
- Coordinate the rollout of automated environment application upgrades.
- Work closely with the development staff to ensure that issues/defects are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
- Apply test methodology and product knowledge in the design of tests and testing strategies.
- Identify and propose areas of improvement throughout the software development process.
- Conduct root cause analysis of identified defects, providing development/business partners with sufficient details to understand, replicate and resolve the defect.
- Maintain well organized records of test results and generate historical analysis of test results.
- Ensure strong documentation around automation framework; keep it up-to-date.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

- Automated test scenarios (3+ years using TestComplete) for thick client - server based applications written in Visual Basic 6 and .NET languages.
- Knowledge of Visual Basic, .NET framework, SQL, SQL Server and VmWare is required.
- Experience in automating applications using Telerik controls is a big plus.
- Experience in using TestComplete Quality Center connector is desired.

Education:

Bachelors degree in computer science or related field, or minimum of 7 years of experience in the field or related area preferred.
