Senior Network Engineer

Overview:
Perform systems and networking engineering and integration tasks related to operations and systems sustainment. Responsibilities include design, documentation, project planning, communication, configuration, testing, implementation, tuning, and level 3 support. The systems engineering team is a project focused group with accountability for delivering sound technical solutions while meeting project milestones for deliverables. This position requires strong technical skills as well as the ability to successfully document and communicate results to technical and non-technical staff.

Responsibilities:

Provide technical leadership to the systems engineering team. Includes being a subject matter expert that is relied upon by less experience staff to provide technical guidance related to best practices and the practical application of knowledge to benefit the team.
Provide sound judgment for solving complex technical issues. Including effectively communicating the problem to management with recommendations for action to resolve the issue. May direct other engineers in order to mitigate risk and work towards a quick resolution within the required SLA.
Research and recommend the latest technology in IT infrastructure and communicate findings to management for consideration. This will include performing proof of concept work with outside vendors.
Design new systems as required. This will include developing proposals with systems architectural diagrams, detailed project plans, risk analysis, and estimates for completion.
Create supporting documentation such as run books to system administrators and working closely with the operations team to ensure successful deployment of new systems.
Responsible for systems sustaining activities. Serve as the level 3 escalation point for production support. This will require working closely with outside vendors as well as internal technical and non-technical staff to collect pertinent information such as logs, traces, packet captures, etc. to quickly resolve production issues.
Take ownership of systems throughout their lifecycle. This will include ongoing maintenance of systems in the Test, Development and QA environments to ensure upgrades, patches, and ongoing changes will not adversely affect Production systems.
Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery efforts to support the corporate disaster recovery plan. This will require the design, implementation, and ongoing validation of highly available systems as well as passive standby systems to ensure availability in the event of a disaster.
Work independently using sound judgment to ensure systems perform to defined SLAs.
Follow defined process for change control to ensure proper communication and to mitigate risk associated with introducing change to the production environment.
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in computer related area is required. Minimum of 8 years network engineering experience is required, plus Cisco certifications or equivalent technical engineering qualification required (CCNA, CCNP+, CCDA, CCIE). Extensive knowledge of Cisco ASA firewalls and VPNs; Knowledge of Category 5/6/7 copper cabling along with various Fiber interface/specifications; Solid understanding of Layer 2 and 3 Protocols including Spanning Tree, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP; Extensive knowledge implementing and supporting 8021.x, PKI, SNMP, RADIUS, SYSLOG and Cisco ISE, Cisco Routers 2600-3900, Catalyst switches 3750, 4500, 6500 and the Nexus product line. Previous experience in project leadership and in providing technical consultation to field and personnel with a proven proficiency in providing effective direction to analysis is required.
